What is beauty tech and what does it actually do?

Beauty tech covers the electronic devices designed to treat the skin and facial muscles at home with technologies that used to be clinic-only: radiofrequency, microcurrents, LED light, ultrasound and sonic cleansing. Each technology acts on a specific layer or function of the skin, so the right device depends on what you want to work on (firmness, radiance, acne, dark circles…).

Do home beauty devices work as well as professional ones?

Home devices from serious brands use the same technology as professional ones, but at lower power to make them safe for unsupervised use. Results are more gradual, but many short sessions add up to the same effect as a few intensive clinic sessions. The key is consistency: two weekly sessions kept up for 2-3 months bring visible results, especially in firmness and radiance.

What's the difference between radiofrequency and microcurrents?

Radiofrequency generates heat in the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate new collagen. Microcurrents send gentle electrical pulses that tone the facial muscles. Radiofrequency works on the quality and firmness of the skin; microcurrents work on the muscle and the definition of the jawline. The two technologies are compatible and many people combine them: radiofrequency for skin sagging and microcurrents for the muscle.

How often should I use a Foreo BEAR device?

The brand recommends using Foreo BEAR 2 daily for the first three months with 5-minute sessions per facial zone. After the third month, three sessions per week is enough for maintenance. Always with a serum or facial gel on the skin as a conductor so the microcurrents transmit properly and don't cause tightness.

Is it safe to use TriPollar at home?

Yes, TriPollar devices carry the CE mark and are designed for home use. They include sensors that monitor skin temperature and shut down automatically if they exceed the safe threshold. They shouldn't be used if you have a pacemaker, over recent tattoos, on skin with wounds or if you're pregnant. They also shouldn't be used directly on the cheekbones without enough gel.

Which device suits which need?

For sagging and firmness, radiofrequency (TriPollar) or microcurrents (Foreo BEAR). For daily cleansing and radiance, sonic cleansing (Foreo LUNA). For eye contour and tired-looking skin, dedicated devices (Foreo IRIS 2, UFO 3). For acne and blackheads, sonic cleansing + blue LED light (LUNA and KIWI). Do I need a specific gel for radiofrequency?

Yes, TriPollar radiofrequency devices need their specific conductive gel to work properly. That gel does two things: it transmits the current between the device electrodes and protects the skin from the heat generated. Using a different gel or cosmetic oil can reduce the treatment effectiveness and cause irritation. The official TriPollar gel is sold with the device and as a refill.

Do LED devices work for acne?

Yes, blue LED light has an antibacterial effect on Cutibacterium acnes, the bacteria associated with inflammatory acne. It's applied in short sessions (3-5 minutes) several times a week on the affected area. It's not a substitute treatment for moderate or severe acne: in those cases, consult a dermatologist first. For mild acne, occasional breakouts and acne-prone skin, blue light is a good complement to a routine with sebum-regulating actives.
