Pestigon Gatos 50 mg is a spot-on pipette with fipronil (50 mg per 0.5 ml pipette) designed to quickly eliminate fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) and maintain protection against new infestations for up to 5 weeks; it also shows acaricidal efficacy against ticks (Ixodes ricinus) within 48 hours. It is applied directly onto the skin (one pipette per cat), parting the fur between the shoulder blades and depositing the product at the base of the skull and 2–3 cm below; avoid allowing the cat to lick the treated area until it is dry. Do not use in kittens less than 8 weeks old or weighing less than 1 kg, in sick or convalescent animals, nor in rabbits. Avoid use in animals with known hypersensitivity to the active substance or any excipient.
Precautions for application: it may cause irritation to mucous membranes and eyes—avoid contact with mouth and eyes, and rinse with water if contact occurs; do not eat, drink, or smoke during application. After treatment, do not handle the animal until the application site is dry (it is recommended to apply in the evening for convenience). Possible adverse reactions include hypersalivation if the animal licks the area; very rarely, transient skin reactions or reversible neurological signs may occur. Use during pregnancy or lactation should be decided by the veterinarian after evaluating the benefit/risk ratio.
